Undersecretary Robert T.Rivera (Office of the Press Secretary) needs no further introduction. I have known him since many years back as the hardworking head of Dyna Records TV Promo department. In the mid – 70’s, he was responsible for the rise to fame of recording stars, Claire, Rudy Genaskey, Hebert Bartolome and Banyuhay, Pabs Dadivas, Gary Bautista, Rafael Centenera and many others.

A graduate of T.V. Production course at the UST Ed. Tech, he had his own share of the limelight during the early ‘80s, as he performed on national TV shows, being the one who introduced the dance crazes of that era such as “Bimbo Salsa”, “L.A. Walk”; With some of the country’s loveliest and with international beauties as well like Miss World Wilhelia Merced of Puerto Rico.

At the height of his popularity, re resigned from Dyna and got married to a convent bred, only daughter of multi-millionaire couple; lived with her in a posh residence at White Plains for more than 18 years.

During this period, he persevered to develop his business skills in his father-in-laws’s booming chemical business. He went back to school and finished a business degree course at the University of the Philippines, on top of his class.

He became a noted socio-civic-business leader, receiving numerous awards. It was simply sad that he was already separated from his wife when he took his oath of office as Undersecretary at the Office of the Press Secretary in MalacaƱang. That time, he was the incumbent president of the Mandaluyong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vice President and board of director of Integral Chemical Corporation and president of Integral Properties, Inc. He had to take indefinite leave from these positions to be able to serve in the government.

Since 1991, he became actively involved at the Metro Manila Film Festival’s Executive Committee. He became the Vice-Chairman of the Screening Committee during the time of former Kalookan Mayor Rey Malonzo. Chairman of the Information and Education Committee, Vice Chairman of the Rules and Regulation Committee under chairman Ben Abalos, Co-Chairman of the Board of Jurors/Script Reading Committee under Bayani Fernando.

To date, he has reviewed and watched over 300 films and documentaries and have read more than 250 scripts from the potential Metro Manila filmfest entries.

He also attended workshops and screenings at the 1999 Cannes Film Festivals.

Usec. Rivera is regularly seen hosting “Pilipinas NgayonNa!” telecast every Saturdays from 5:30 to 6:30 in the evening. On NBN Channel 4.

His new appointment as MTRCB’s Appeals Committee Vice-Chairman under the Office of the President, is very much welcomed by the entertainment industry, where Usec. Rivera always served and belonged.
